Because he was literally not there for the child at all. Only the sister was there and even then had to pass it over to her brother, both parents didn’t want to deal with the child. Only now suddenly the father wants to take in the child even though he was neglectful and wouldn’t visit the child until now,, plus society thinks children should be with their biological parents, plus mixed in with homophobia the father doesn’t want a gay couple raising his child.
