Genuine question, its been awhile since I read the series. I’m caught up now but I honestly don’t remember the previous chapters well or the prince ever beating the mc. I think he hit her like little slaps for teasing and because he felt like it since he’s cold by nature and senses the mc is there for ill intentions (which is also something that annoys me cuz she tryna get closer to him but he just so quick to cut her off) but was there times when he like WHAMED or like abuse level beat the mc??

Yoo nvm I just read the recent chapter, he literally almost fully force smacked her across the face with his arm while she was going into the doorway and said “what”. Was that her imagination or like his reflex cuz he’s always on guard? Damn y’all, what is this contrast with him smacking the mc cuz she grabbed his clothing then helping the mc from falling: this two faced.

If you are in the ML's position, you would do the same, honestly speaking. He is an illegitimate SON who had no backup, hence he had to change his identity. Honestly from that alone, you'd understand how much his life was constantly in danger. That's why he was always on guard and wanted FL to quit being his lady in waiting. He was trying to drive her away because he doesn't trust anyone. Honestly, if you guys take the time to get to understand his circumstances, I think you guys wouldn't say these things.

I think I understand but I’m still frustrated with how he treats her. The smack was probably a reflex; since the ML is always on guard trying to survive in an environment where he is neglected and hated by his brother that holds more authority. Or the smack was intentional; since the ML has always been suspicious of the mc’s intentions and does not trust her, to drive her away he is cold and smacks her. But if his goal is to drive her away why save her from falling? Why show moments of kindness if he is suspicious of her? If its intential reasons for the slap make no sense to me and makes me really frustrated cuz the mc dwells and agnozies on the two sides the ML shows her: kind and hateful. If this is done to redeem the ML from his earlier cruel actions and part of the process to make her fall in love then its really unhealthy. The story hasn’t really looked from the ML point of view so we do not know why he assassinated the mc family but his childhood does give context to his mental state as an adult and to an extent justification to his actions as emperor. Still though, the mc was literally put in almost the position of helplessness and disperation when her family was killed before her eyes (the ML cannot understand losing an affectionate family like the mc cuz he never experienced one) and she cannot enjoy her family’s company in the new life because she must save her household. She wants to get revenge but ultimately I think she just wants her family’s survival and she is tryna to prevent their deaths by buliding a relationship with the ML. So, I cannot help but get frustrated when the ML shows Hostility to her regardless of his situation. And I hope she does not forgive him (at least not immediately and falls in love).

I think you still haven't read the spoiler so I won't be mentioning it but I understand where you are coming from. But for me, I interpret it as the ML actually being a good person that doesn't want to trust people only to be betrayed by them. Yes, he wants to drive FL out but he doesn't want her dead. As you said, and am thankful you understand, all of these are only in the FL's perspective. Also, don't worry, according to the spoilers, it takes time before the FL falls in love<3

Yes I get it he had a rough life but that doesn’t give him the right to hit her! I get him putting up a wall and treating her badly but VIOLENCE! It’s a no from me Idc what he went through he can NOT treat her like that it’s not cute. If they get together I think he would be the violent type (that’s my opinion)

What can we do? That's how he sees himself to survive. If you want him to change, we can just wait for some character development. He was raised in a harsh life so obviously, that is also going to affect his way of thinking. Does that not make him an a-hole? No, but atleast we can understand where he is coming from.

going by your logic, the female lead's hatred for him is justified because she just wants her family to survive and yet here you are, preaching about how people should try to understand the prince for HITTING her. there may be character development for him in the future, but for you to ask people to understand him with the way he acts now? very unlikely.

I feel like you forgot that all you read now is in FL's point of view and we don't really see the ML's perspective. Let me say it again, ML wants FL to leave that's why he's being rude and hitting her. He doesn't want to get close to people he can't trust and that may even betray him in the future. Because he is a potential successor of the crown, he even had to crossdress to hide his identity. His life is constantly in danger, and naturally, FL coming from a family that opposes him, he becomes wary of her and wants her out. But that doesn't mean he automatically wants her dead, hence he also keeps saving her. ML wants to send a message but FL is persistent, that's why she keeps being hit. But that doesn't mean I'm blaming FL, because she just wants to change the future. Both are understandable, in my opinion.

yes, both are understandable. but in this case where the original comment was talking about how him hitting her was bad, insisting that readers need to understand him is a bit of a stretch. we can understand him while reprimanding his actions towards the FL. because at the end of the day, violence is violence. and violence against a powerless girl is bad.

I don't really feel any romantic attraction on Naomi's side even now. Also a few things the king said makes me think he won't pursue her or at the very least won't force a marriage.
I think it would be a really cool thing for this manga to represent rejection and just leave it at that.
However, I can see the author trying to force this relationship since it's been mentioned so many times by the kind (albeit always one-sidedly)
