I'll give some props to the mother, she was a prostitute who lived a very difficult life, and when you live a difficult life like that it is hard to have empathy and sympathy or even be stable emotionally much less care about someone else even if they are your child, usually characters like her choose to abandon their children and abuse them as well... she could've easily thrown her daughter (the FL) away and started her new rich life with no baggage and no worries, but she chose to bring her daughter along with her and stick to her, and although she was drunk she was still worried about a the fact that her kid could have gotten into an accident, she may not be that involved in the FL's life, but she still cares about her in her own way.
