I think the perspective from the mc is saw raw and straightforward like his monologue shows he knows how rough it is fir iljo out there, he knows that iljo took care of the old man and couldn't get a job. He knows Iljo is not at fault. He acknowledges this yet a part of him wants to treat him badly. Yet he hadn't treated him badly. But Iljo is aware that he doesn't welcome his stay. I am curious fir iljo POV now.
I do feel like the new guy has a tragic backstory but treating the savior by having another innocent guy histage is not the way.
