I've read this dj a thousand of times (and I LOVE it) but I still have the same uncomfortable moment: Gintoki's line of "anyway, I also don't know what a true family is". I dont know if it comes from the translation or if it was like that since the jp version but I dont like that. As far as I know Shouyou was Gintoki's true parent and Katsura & Takasugi his brothers so I think that counts as a true family, sure, they arent blood related (maybe that's what it meant for "true" but still) and dont fit the "normal" or "common" category, but I really think that doesnt take the true away.
Soooo... this might be spoiler if it's featured later but I think it should be told if it doesn't:
Dorsen is not actually that bad of a guy, like sure, he was an asshole at first but his mistake, just like the other guys, was falling for Yuri, but the important thing is if he can be redeemed. After Iris expulsion, if you remember her mom refuses to go to Dorsen's mother party wich would be a bad thing for the Knight's family, but probably they weren't even mad at her and found they decission understandable. After the news of his son behavior and involment in Iris' expulsion arrive, Dorsen's father is really mad, and tells him that how he could dare to hurt the dughter of a Duke just cos his feelings for the daughter of a Baron and stuff like that (actually, the one who tells him that he is not fit for a knight first is his father), on the other hand her mother is not angry but so disappointed about how her son could hurt a lady who had just lost almost everything, and that just hits Dorsen and makes him start to rethink his decissions.
All that is shown in a flashback after learning from a senpai in the trining session who Dida and Ryle are, and he just prays that they do not relise who he is. After that is said that, just like Iris' brother, he also started to separate form Yuri and Edward and realised how wrong some of their thoughts were
OMG THANK YOU FOR SAYING IT!!!! Dorsen was actually one of the few Edward lackeys I ended up liking ^^

This! Actually rather than his father‘s rebuke or Ryle/Dida‘s beating, the one that I think really hit home for Dorsen are actually his mother‘s disappointment speech and his senpai‘s comment as outsider. So I kinda feel let down when they changed it in manga.
Like many have said here, Dorsen hold moral as knight, and as one of people he feel must to protect, aka his mother, asked him if he conducted himself as a knight when he held down Iris, who is the one getting cheated while still officially in engagement nonetheless. If he was his previous self, he won’t affected by emotion and could calmly assess the situation, and maybe even prevent that stupid prince to lose precious support to his faction. His family won’t have bad reputation with the duke‘s too.
Also when his mother asked him what he think about the chocolate he ate, he just keep silence and can’t answer her. But his mother just say that she feel that those chocolate are Iris‘ resolution. Resolution to live alone and not marry for the rest of her life. He just destroyed the future of woman’s life. Even so for a knight to destroy rather than protect, for me, her mother’s question stab harder than the others.
His senpai also quite blunt. When Dorsen asked him what he think of Iris, he just said that he didn’t know. He didn’t even know what she looks like, how can he judged her. It made Dorsen think that he also didn’t know Iris back then.
Senpai also said that to make Ryle and Dida, who refuse the invitation of both knight‘s order and the army, swear loyalty to her, then they should have a picture in mind what kind of person is Iris.
I think these parts have more impact to Dorsen, but I guess manga reader prefer more action? Kinda disappointed though （￣へ￣）

Yeeeeees!!! You know, I really like his and the brother way of repenting, like it really hurts them to be shown what an assholes they were and so it doesnt leave you with the insatisfaction of them just being forgiven

Im still mad at him doe like the fuq was he restraining her like that for?! she was far away from C*ntYuri & IdiotPrince...she wasnt being violent, yet he forced her to her knees ...talk about Extra & Violent... also the way that they lay there hands on yuri so casually like caressing her hair n stuff is unacceptable considering her new position as "Fiancé of the 2nd prince"...& no one says anything or seem to think its sketchy behavior, In old society's like that laying ur hands on even the hair of someone engaged to royalty is shameless & in some extreme cases considered attempting adultery... UGH sry for my ranting its just these lil things piss me off, Especially when you know a lot about the subject. Total dick-move Fanfan... I know it was just his way of being loyal, but still, que mamón. Enra too a little, he was technically at fault for what happend and he still left Komachi's side and just hanging there for a couple of minutes (╬￣皿￣)凸
Well, all in all, good ending even tho it came at a rather unexpected time.
