I think he just didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable by forcing her to sleep with him. Since it's not the usual marriage. The only reason he even tried to force her to marry him is because he wanted her by his side, even if she hated him or didn't love them. So right now, they're in the dating phase of their relationship, even though they got married. That's my best guess anyway
