I think it has to do with them not feeling confident enough drawing a MC with a baby bump, in multiple scenes and scenarios.
That's why kids and babies tend to be left for the ending and usually that happens with a time skip too.
Think about it, how often do you see a story where the MC/FL is pregnant throughout several chapters post first trimester? It's VERY rare.
