In regards to grooming by a younger party, while I think anything is possible, grooming is easier when you're established, socially apt, and forward thinking. Groomers leverage their material(money,property, social currency/standing) and experience over victims to create a power dynamic in which they are naturally deferred to; this is just easier with age.
In this situation, the MC is in a vulnerable life stage (going into uni) and has familial disharmony--he doesn't feel like he can express himself to his family. MC is unconciously broadcasting the fact that he is insecure, a prime target. Now we insert the ML who is established with his own business, has perceived good social standing because of his looks, and initially gives off "safe older brother vibes," someone easily trusted. ML actively gives special attention to the insecure MC who is not used to said attention with the intent of playing off of that insecurity to be in a dubious cucking relationship with someone without a sense of boundaries or the nerve to say no.
