does anybody know how the updates happen officially? also why are the chapters so short?
It doesn't have official upploading dates, Old_xian (the author) just posts them whenever he wants. There used to be chapters every month, especially when the story was in the She Li arc, but he got sick and couldn't update for quite a while, since then the updates are inconsistent.
Sometimes there's a 3 month gap between chapters, I think I remember someone saying that when the manhua still wasn't so popular, they didn't have an update for a year.
The chapters are short because they were meant to be little comics for an art book, the story developted and got popular, but Old_xian still keeps the same format. Also, Old_xian posts the manhua for free on his socials, so nobody can really complain (I actually prefer this. If he takes this long for just a few panels, imagine how long it will take for a full manhua chapter )

im sorry but he would NOT do that are we forgetting that he literally left ian (his words: you're free now - do what you want) after the car crash bc he realised he doesn't want ian to die? also yeah i used to think tj might kill jo but honestly idts now. esp after tj admitted that he owes his life to jo i think it'll be pretty stupid if his character just regresses like that.
