Let me remind you how Sasya was seriously mentally ill by the time Karel met him. Let me remind you how Karel’s obsession didn’t help him but in fact made his condition so much worse to the point where Sasya attempted to commit suicide. Let me remind you of all of the flashbacks where we can see that Karel turned a blind eye to all of this and when he finally decided to step up and help it was only superficially since they never got to the root of Sasya’s problems. Let me remind you, lastly, how Karel became broken BECAUSE someone assaulted Sasya and Sasya in defense killed that person, which Karel CHOSE to take the blame for once they were found out, to which Sasya, in his extremely fragile state of mind, could not comprehend the reality of the events and decided to resume his life after waiting for Karel to return for YEARS and believing he was abandoned because, again, he was severely mentally ill.

what you've mentioned are all true. yet mental illness does not give you the right to break other people. i've learned that the hard way. saying this as someone who has struggled with MI for their entire life, have been hospitalized multiple times, been through hours and hours and HOURS of therapy and is still on a journey to stability. i'll repeat my point: your mental illness is not a get-out-of-jail free card for when you damage others for your own benefit. your actions will still have consequences and you WILL lose people. therefore i refuse to baby Sasya like most people on this forum seem to do just because of his apparent mental issues.

You don’t have to baby him, you’ve dealt with mental illness yourself so you should know how your instability can affect your actions and that is in no way defending his “actions”, because the few things he did do that weren’t correct I’ve criticized them myself, such as holding unto him in the beginning when he didn’t have feelings for Karel yet. However, we have to be equitative here and assign Karel the blame that he deserves for his own brokenness as well. Because from the very get go he was obsessive, controlling and manipulative, which made Sasya’s own condition get to the point that it did. Once again, his contribution in Sasya’s mental decline is what ultimately “broke” him.

Where in my response am I not “chill”? I’m having a conversation and I didn’t speak rudely or aggressively. If you really are up to date and saw all of the flashbacks you see that Karel didn’t suffer more, they both suffered equally in the relationship. And if you tell me he did simply because he went to a war he himself chose to go to then you must think that living trapped and controlled like a bird in a cage must be such a wonderful thing.
