The guy is trash. A severe embarrassment to the human race. There is nothing at all to empathize with him about nor feel any sympathy for. I'm glad it's being dropped so I don't have to read it anymore since we know that the author do some asspull shit to attempt to make the audience sympathize with him and eventually make Nagi fall in love with him.

Hey there! I know your comment is from ages ago, but I want to update you on the story so far. I actually read the whole thing until the latest chapter and it actually got better! A bit frustrating if you're not into slow burns, but I love the character growth. If you see this comment, I think you should give it another go :D

forget it, there is none. Nada, zippo, kaputnik. The series should not have any kind of romance tag at all. It is simply a story about a boy who is oblivious to otaku culture and a girl who hates it because (mostly) her father is the epitomy of an otaku and tries to force her to be one as well. Nonetheless, if you're into that sort of thing, it's a pretty good story.

if you haven't figured it out after reading the chapter, this is when the story starts going down that well-worn, clichéd storytelling path that so many, many other series stumble down. It still has its charm, but the use of the typical shoujo clichés makes it, at times, very aggrivating to read. And the sad thing is, the author didn't have to go down that path as the story had enough charm without adding uneccessry drama.

why Ritsuko was so willing to go to a goukon and give another dude her phone number. Shuichi's long-term lack of performance (and especially lack of enthusiasm) could certainly lead to Ritsuko seeking pleasure elsewhere. Going to goukons and host clubs could certainly fill the huge gap in self-worth as a woman created by Shuichi's indiferrence. I feel bad for her having to put up with such a limp biscuit. She certainly seems to deserve much better.

instead of Hyejinx making a strong effort to improve herself, knowing that she's emotionally wishy-washy, she seems to actually be regressing character-wise. For the life of me, I can't understand what Haejun sees in her that makes him unable to give up on her, particuarly with all the bullshit she's put him through, past and present.

My enjoyment of the series has dropped by at least 50% in 2 chapters. If she's gonna be in every chapter, it won't be fun to read anymore.

We all have our own likes and dislikes and this time I'm not even concerned as to whether or not she's a love rival. Her extremely cocky, "I'm better than you until you prove otherwise" attitude and the way she addresses (or doesn't) her senpai is extraordinarily disrespectful, particularly in Japanese society.

well, japanese people take as disrespectful the wrong use of honorifics. But it's based on merit and seniority. As she applies it it can be seen as correct since she proves it through testing their skills.
A genuinely disrespectful way would be if after winning against Ayumu, she'd address him as "kun" or lower. Instead she still regards him as upperclassman but with near equal footing on skills (leaning more towards her) so she chose "san".

Seems you're intent on defending her regardless of her actions/inactions. You really think winning just one game of shogi is enough for her to claim ultimate seniority over Ayumu and disdainfully expect him to call her senpai? Bullshit.
And how about the disrespect that she showed the Prez by not addressing her as president until she got her ass whipped. Conceited little fuck needs to get taken down quite a few pegs. Just thinking about her makes me wanna drop this series and rate it a big fat zero.

woah ok, my intent is not to "defend" the new char, but to point that so far at least it doesn't pose any negative point on the series. But I think I'm talking to a brick if you are telling me you think it's fine to rate bad a series that did so well just because of a character that was just introduced 70 chapters later.
To me, her addition to the cast just pave the ground to what will the shogi club become. Since the author has dropped a couple of times sempai's graduation and the impending disband of the club for lack of freshmen interest in it. Her gutsy attitude, which you take as rude and conceited, as I see it, is a trait that might make her a really good club prez, and if I may say so, even better than our beloved shogi sempai.

I know I wasn't here for the argument but I read your whole battle and I agree with all your points. having this new char make the story (to me at least) feel more realistic and not to mention I am sure she will character development to make her more likable later on and if not then that only make our president more likable. ( also in general if you read manga or watch anime I am sure you've heard of or seen the overbearing/cocky character trope.) it happens.

Well, I guess you can find stories like that. But I think this author's intent is to show the big picture of their social circles albeit subtly. ehm, like Komi-san which focus on everyone making friends even when all are so different. Even when he only focus on the main cast in the beginning, you can see how he make those additions enhancing the progression of time in the story. Idk, this might even mean the clousure for Shogi senpai series is drawing near :o

You, yourself, have given the impression of playing around with guys and you absolutely cannot deny that you have kicked Haejun out of the playing field, so what's so hard to believe? And you know it. You've dug your own hole so how are you gonna crawl your way out of it? Can you do it by yourself? Doubtful. Will you snag yet another White Knight to use as a means to rescue you from the evil sunbae?

And the same can be said for Hyejinx. It's nobody else's fault than hers that she has acted in ways that could give the impression she enjoys toying with men's hearts. She went on dates with a sunbae but rejected him when he confessed. She constantly hung around with Haejun but rejected him when he confessed. To the gossip-hungry outside observer (and those are the types who enjoy rumors), she certainly fits the mold. As for Dirtbag-sunbae, he is scum of the first order and if Hyejinx had any kind of backbone (which unfortunately she does not), she should have kicked him in the nuts and then walloped him on the head as he bent over in pain and then kicked him a few more times in the nuts as he lay there writhing in agony.

My language is derogatory towards fucking idiots regardless of gender, men, women, or whatever gender it may be so you can take your man-hating, prejudice comments and stick em where the sun don't shine. I couldn't care less whether you respect me or not, but as you're not capable of responding with a rational counter-argument I'll just have to lump you with those, above.
You oughta take a look in the mirror before you start criticizing other people's appearances: you look like you just crawled out from under your cardboard home under the bridge. And your attitude stinks. Women complain about men looking at them like they were a piece of meat, but looking at men like they are pieces of meat looks to be a fulltime obsession with you.
I completely agree. That really set me off
