I'm sure it's just a shadow to hide the man's true identity because his skin might be decaying thanks to the red curse — it's been so long that the "solution" didn't fully heal him. Also, reading through the character's reactions when they see him, it heavily implies he looks ugly; the author probably didn't know how to convey this ugliness.

are u brown? regardless of the authors true intentions, this type of media demonizes people with darker skin. his “beautiful/original” form is pale and he’s blonde. his “ugly/monster” form is a dark greyish brown with black hair. excusing that as skin rot is kind of stupid. it’s already known that most colorism is mostly focused in asia (COMING FROM AN ASIAN) and i’m js pointing it out here bc it’s a genuine problem
I get where you’re coming from, and I’m not ignoring the colorism that exists in Asian media, it’s very real and defiitely needs to be addressed. But in this specific case, I don’t think the author’s intent was to equate being brown with being monstrous. The “ugly” form loks more like a result of the curse and decay, not a natural skin tone (and I believe that his rotting body was already healed after the mc healed him).It feels more like they just didn’t know how to visualy portay physical decay without unintentionally stepping into that trope. Pointing out these patterns is important, but jumping straight to “racist author” without context makes it harder to have real convos about the issue. I just don’t think that was the case he’sre. But people have diff perspectives and I won’t hold u with that, ts is just how I see it from my perspective, and I also believ that some artist just refuse to make their characters look genuinely ugly.

Yes, I am brown. I don't know why ask that? And no, I don't see the issue. I know colorism is very common in Asia but not everything has to revolve around that and even LESS if it's an accusation without proof.
As I said before, I BELIEVE the author didn't know how to portray the ugliness of the character and just went with a shadow. It's not as deep as you all make it seem—in my opinion.
Sure, you can have a different view on this—and I totally get why this could be harmful for some—but without concrete proof that it was intentionally made like this due to racism, the accusations are just as bad as the problem in hand.
