For the ml, I think he by now has concluded that his experiment of "fated pair liking each other without knowing that they are fated" is a failure bc in his pov, mc rlly wanted some distance between them with how earnest mc is in looking for ml's namer partner. That's why he's keeping a distance.
For the mc, he's fallen by now but because he fears that ml will leave him once his fated partner comes, he's not accepting ml's confession.
