The cliché would be that the ex is yakusa. I hope it's more interesting. The sensei's characterizations are so deft, I feel safe wanting more.
Cliché: spot on, and to take it further, that the ex is strong-arming Kitihara to spy on Nagai, because Kitihara has the feels for the detective. It seems like the perfect set up for something treacherous. I would like to see it go in a new direction.
I was thinking that too, that it would probably end up being the ex being yakuza (reason for ex suddenly "wanting to get together) or exactly what you said. I still would love a personality twist though even if it goes down the possibly cliche path of kithara being covert yakuza. That would still make the story more interesting than if it was just the ex alone. Maybe we can have some inner workings/dance between cop and yakuza with some action and some tension. Though I also love gap/unexpected personalities so I hope if we get some backstory, that he is not so carefree or innocent, but something much more interesting!!!
Or kitihara is a secret double agent who is pretending to be in the yakuza world, so he is misunderstood as being yakuza, but ends up on the "good" side in the end. Ex is another agent who offers he move back in with him because staying with a cop might blow their cover. I sort of don't want this to be the case, idk why but it might happen??
I highly doubt it. It doesn't feel like that kind of manga.
Nagai claims to have a boring public service job...where he might step over dead bodies. That's Chekhov's gun, right there. If Kitihara has nothing to do with the yakuza, then what the heck is the plot? And yet, the writing is too good for this to go nowhere or to clicheville. Nagai's inner monologue makes him interesting and believable-- well rounded. And iamaki's right, the art and other clues aren't warning us that this is dark drama. I feel safe expecting to be surprised. I want to be surprised. Please surprise me.
Unpredictable is so nice! I want to be wowed and surprised. Don't think it will happen, although it's quite a good story so far.
Now that would really be cliché, and that's actually what I figured was most likely to come about. Hopefully something more unusual will transpire.

Well normally from the cover, to the style of art, to the type of manga certain scan groups translate, gives us a hint or a clue as to the tone of the manga, but so far I have been thrown off a police-related theme to a sort of "picked him up" theme (kimi wa petto, anyone? Lol) so idk maybe it will have some serious areas, but the soft romantic theme would probably still be there, which would offset the plot from a more dark or disturbing themed piece if there was any. I guess only time (and more chapters) will tell... ╮(￣▽￣)╭
Pfft! A creative outlet and a trip abroad is more reason for a relationship than you get in most yaoi stories where the typical hook-up is "Wow, you look like just my type. Let's screw, o hot one!" (Not that reason is required for something as irrational as love and sex.)
People do get turned on by mind-expansive activities like traveling to new countries and experiencing new cultures or an artistic adventure like photography. That's actually a pretty good entry point to a relationship with someone. Where it goes from there is the next important thing, but it makes better sense than "You make my ding-ding dong, my tra-la-la."

Wow! These stories are so fresh and real, they are an absolute pleasure to read. The love scenes are the right degree of tender and hot, too. The ukes (both stories) are adorably vulnerable, here. Normally I don't like it when one of the partners is so emotional, but it works here because it doesn't come across as needy and clingy.
Also, I remember reading these awhile back (before we had the option of keeping lists on Mangago) and wishing there was some way of keeping it close and ready to read at any time. So glad we can keep track of our favourites now. Thanks mangago.

Then it was all Happy Day again, even if I did have to go to another site to read it. Now I don't have to wait around anymore, until somebody feels arsed enough to post them here.

yes i totally feel you! the first chapter ended off rather nicely despite everything else because the seme finally understood the uke and seems to have felt something too ┗( T﹏T )┛ but chapter four is just totally fucked up and sick. just wtaf.
I totally understand wanting to read fetish and kink yaoi for the sake of releasing some tension, but the thing that turns it around for me is connection and power shift. That's the basis. If that's missing, if it's just about raw violation, then apart from feeling sorry for the person who was violated, it's like reading a newspaper story.

This story is such a good one, but it's been a long time since it was updated. Does anyone know if it has been dropped? Or licensed? It's a shame, in any case, because the two characters are very real and believable, and that last chapter is hanging on quite a seismic power shift. I'm very curious to learn how it turns out.
It's not been licensed but you could ask BL-Gyaru if they drop it or not. They are in Tumblr.
Although mangaupdates says it's Ongoing but hasn't a Volume yet (???). Maybe it has something to do with the mangaka (??)
