this manhwa is so fascinating to me,,, there's something so warm and cozy and endearing about the art, but beyond that, this writing feels so much more grounded than manhwa tend to. it also features some of the most legendary t shirts ive seen in fiction including of course: real cowboys ride cock, unionize, and fund public libraries. but unironically, it's little things like that that makes it feel like the author for sure either has queer people in their life or is queer themselves and that vibe just adds to the warm, comfy feelings i get when i read this

why are we acting like she's committed a hate crime?? she's ignorant and meddling, sure, but she's done nothing to harm them either. like dudes (main characters, even) in bl will spout actively hateful rhetoric and barely anyone gives a shit, but all this girl does is overstep boundaries and people are wanting her head on a pike,,, like i just don't get the sheer amount of animosity.

I think, and this is just my assumption from reading comments over various sites, that it has to do with her approach. We typically see the character already have someone in mind to set them up with, or a more direct approach to handling the situation. The fact she broke a second boundary by sharing his personal information (appearance, general location, age, phone number, likely more with all the questions apps ask...) and did this on multiple sites? Well, that seems to be what really lit the fire. It went from people seeing it as "she feels uncomfortable, and is misguided" to "she is actively putting him in potential harms way, despite knowing his history with being used, because she is that against it."
Personally, I think she's misguided and made a stupid decision. Dangerous- yes. But I feel like the authors also showed it wasn't from a place of deepseeded hate, or anything like that. My opinion, is it showed she believed that her actions were correct not because she thinks it's "wrong" but because she wants ML happy. Her concept of happy was always painted one way. She worries he will be hurt further in a same sex marriage.
Or at least that's my take as a member of the alphabetsoup community. Can't speak for everyone.
On a scale of 1-10 to suckiness she's a 3 for her view on their relationship. (At least from what I've seen thusfar.) Annoying but communication can clear it.
It went up to 7, for me, once she shared his personal details. Buuut not enough for pitchforks. More of a "I'm watching you, that's a second strike."
Sorry ramble.

I totally agree with you and I think she doesn't even realize that what she's doing is really wrong and dangerous.
She's really immature, and quite innocent.
I think most of the hate she's receiving is because she's a girl, I don't really get why but female characters tend to receive a lot of hate in BL... More so than rapists MLs/MCs... ಠ_ಠ
I wish a woman could explain the reason to me because... Yeah... It looks like a lot of people criticizing her for homophobic behavior are, probably, woman acting like a bunch of misogynists...

Lady here. It may be because women feel it's easier to comment on a fellow woman's perspective. It's easier to think "I would have done this" and then blame the character. I notice this when it comes to commentary on movies/shows especially. Women are more likely to say "what is she doing" and then put down a woman character. With men, they usually stop at an insult. It's like for men they get "oh he's stupid" and women get "oh she's stupid, and x, and y, and also z!"
May be because there's also an underlying view that that women are expected to be more empathetic. "Boys will be boys" type of thinking. Definitely don't agree with it, but admittedly have noticed times I too give different weight to a characters decisions based on gender. Been working hard to correct that, and now try to take a step back which is how I end up overanalyzing like I'm likely doing. But it's harmful to both men and women to think this way.
Men can be empathetic just as much as women can lack compassion. It's nurture that resulted in what is now a feminine/masculine stereotype regarding expectations regarding compassion. But, like... it's 2024 people. We've known better for ages.
As you said- with her age, she fits with being raised online. Where act first think later is often typical, especially when it comes to apps. As someone online, she wouldn't see it as a breach of privacy but normal. Consideration would have reminded her, oh- ML isn't online for a reason. But her mind was focused on "what can I do" and nothing else. Misguided and mistaken. Not a vindictive villain.
It drives me BONKERS that assault and full on rape is brushed off. Then they turn and complain about something that has clearly been shown as non-malicious, or a misunderstanding, and have teeth out.
Also notice it a lot with hating side characters who do wayyyyyyy less damage than the ML, but he's fine cuz he's rich and abused MC first. But throw in a female character set up as the arranged fiance, and she's hated for existing. Meanwhile ML has knuckles on ice as MC is bleeding on the floor. >.>
And I want to clarify I don't mean all women, or men. It's just repetitive to keep adding "some" every time. Before someone reasing misunderstands. I'm a rambler trying very hard to limit how many paragraphs I word vomit. XD

Makes sense. I think the male oriented society forces a lot of unhealthy competition between women, being doing so in nearly every culture for thousands of years, and many tend to do it without realizing instead of uniting. Unfortunately a witnessed a lot of pro male chauvinism speeches from women and I think that's really sad.
I have 2 younger sisters, we're really close and my most trusted friends are also women, so I learn a lot from them and I tend to be on women's side like, 90% of the time, but most men take each others side and defend even the most outrageous behavior just because they're from men. So I think we urgently need more balance.
Sorry, I ended up turning the discussion into a political statement. ヽ(。◕o◕。)ノ.

oo thanks for the insight. personally, my first thought was (like other commenters have mentioned) that it was just general misogyny coming into play. you see it all the time with female characters in fiction getting way, way more heat for their actions than their male counterparts ever do, but even with that said, it feels like bl spaces online are particularly vicious. even bl authors exhibit deeply misogynistic beliefs by reducing female characters to caricatures and never letting them have purpose or utility that extends beyond their male counterparts. that being said to see a story set up an arc for a homophobic female character to actually understand why what she's doing is wrong and hurtful is exciting to me, because it's a female character that does bad things but with actual nuance this time. she thinks the way she does because it's all she's ever been taught, not because she as a person, is actively malicious. sorry for the rant lol

gonna wait with bated breath to see what else they write because this was honestly excellent!! i was reading knowing that ultimately everything would end up fine and there would be a happy ending because of the tone of the writing, but it was still engaging enough to keep me on the edge of my seat wanting to know how they'd get there. honestly the reading experience was peak (the comedy hit every single time) and now im gonna be sounding like an insane person trying to convince people that a story about a murderer is the most heartwarming manhwa ive read recently

this has nothing to do with the actual story but what is it with official translations of bl manga having the ugliest font choices in the cover. like is it because the employees get paid minimum wage so they just don't gaf (which is fair) or are they just incompetent cuz like,,, this shit looks so insanely tacky

i actually squealed. like out loud its SO BAD FOR ME this is the first time ive read something and thought "this doesn't need any kind of conflict or drama to keep things interesting" like the dynamics alone are so good and compellingly written i think i'd be satisfied if this story was literally just pointless, directionless fluff. praying this author doesn't fall into the trap of unnecessary/contrived drama that all romance stuff seems to
i believe there is an inherent level of camp present across all types of superhero media(especially comics) and authors who not only recognize, but also capitalize on that unseriousness are actually the best, this shit is so funny and silly
My biology addled brain was confused for a moment and thought you were referring to the cAMP signaling pathway
Sounds like you need to read more BL. Your brain is too healthy
Your right, pass the yaoi cocaine
NOOOOO YOUVE REMINDED ME OF MY BIO FINALS
I read hundreds and idk what it means in the context of bl ngl
