Well, the illness played a major part on his bad attitude and personality, but it only caused him to not feel the empathy and the emotions of the people that surrounds him. The abuse that he have done to the mc is not something that can be blamed to his illness. Therefore, his actions is still considered an act of hostility and harassment.
This is a dumb and ignorant take, to be honest. Like you're implying that this is something to be taken lightly... in all course.
