I recommend reading this manga, 'Inu x Boku SS' or 'Youko x Boku SS'. I think it's one of the first if not the earliest manga to use the half glove, this series start from 2009-2014.

To be honest it's more like 3/4 gloves and I have the same reaction with similar logical reasonings as you guys too when I first encountered this manga and 'Heaven and Hell Roman Company'.
Well let's all be honest about it, it's definitely made sexy for hot n' smexy characters. I'd say (my opinion) best on BL manga/manhua/manhwa/webtoons/web-comics types of stories.
