Okay so, from what I understand is that the 1st chapter was like a glimpse of what the future would look like because at the beginning, he doesn't love her. Chapter 2 is where we the beginning process of how this story is starting. They both only married each other because the current king wanted them to be together/ thought those two would be a match in heaven. However, he doesn't love her and wants to divorce her because he can't stand living with someone he doesn't love (also with the fact that her family doesn't like him and often creates trouble and rumors for him, she's not a part of the slander but she knows about it and lets it happen). In order to make sure she signs the divorce papers, he cuts her funds (like freezing a bank account) so she has no money for anything (food, clothes, jewelry, etc). This causes almost everybody who worked at that house to quit because she couldn't pay them for their services. Only that one maid we saw stayed because she's loyal to her. Feeling sorry for the maid, she agrees to sign the divorce papers in order for the maid to get money and eat. When she meets up with him, one of her conditions for agreeing to get divorce is that he allows her to get an affair with another guy along with her money back. Her reasoning is that once the divorce is finalized, her family will sell her off to another guy instantly, and since this is one of those eras that women have less value if their not a virgin/already once married, she's not gonna have time to "relax" in a sense. Another reason is that when they did have sex, it was only during her ovulation cycle to get her pregnant and that he was always about to get himself off and afterwards leave her (she never orgasmed with him during sex).
