Well, obviously! He's been raised by a depressed mother, lost his father in a horrible way, carried the burden of a severely depressed and suicidal person and got stabbed by his mother. It would've been odd if he wasn't dealing with mental health problems.
That doesn't justify his cruelty in the earlier chapters, but explains his behaviour completely.
