I was actually really confused too.

What happened was, Choi Han relived what happened in his journey. He went and met Rosaline (the redhead mage) and Lock (the berserk wolf boy) as he should've in the original novel. The difference is that Cale sent him on the errand to meet the two (in the original, Choi Han met them by chance). The bigger difference is that, Lock should've been the only survivor. Everybody in the village should've died (killed by nameless assassins). But here, Lock and the children of the village survived because (they overheard) the children would've been kidnapped instead of killed. And, the assassins aren't nameless, they wore a symbol of six red stars and a white star. This made Choi Han suspicious of Cale because if you will remember, they used the same symbol as costume when they rescued the baby dragon. So, Cale knows Choi Han is sus of him, so they went to a church (God of Death's church) for Cale to swore to tell the truth with his life. It means, he'll tell Choi Han info, if he lies, he dies.

P.S. The Blood Crazy mage (the new character introduced) has high position on the secret organization (the six red stars and a white star is their symbol), and he'll cause a ruckus in the capital later (Cale said so.)
