Nothing much happened (I’m on chapter 100 right now), but so far, here’s what I remember:
She accepted the job and stayed at Dalton’s sister’s house to tutor her kids. She also met Olivia (Dalton’s niece, who had a crush on him). At first, Olivia was pretty hostile toward Ms. Pendleton, but eventually, they became friends. Overall, she got along really well with the whole family.
While she was staying there, Dalton didn’t visit much because he thought it would raise suspicion about his feelings for Ms. Pendleton. He only visited once a week. He even asked his sister and Olivia to help him get closer to Ms. Pendleton (basically, they all know he’s head over heels for her and that he DESPERATELY wants her to be his wife plus his family already accepts her as his future wife without her even knowing lol).
Dalton specifically asked Olivia to help bring Ms. Pendleton to his huge manor in Whitefield. And the rest is just them bonding.
The plot twist is that Ms. Pendleton’s father used to be Dalton’s painting teacher. She only found out when they visited a cemetery for Dalton’s family. her father was buried there too. Dalton really respected her father because he was the one who taught him “the beauty in sadness” or something along those lines. Ms. Pendleton fainted when she found out, but before fainting, she told Dalton to catch her or something and said she might be heavy lol.
After that, they became even closer (still just as friends though ugh there’s still a clear line between them but Dalton didn’t really mind likeee he’s such a yearner fr). She asked Dalton if she could visit his manor even without Olivia, because of her late father.
AND THEN OMG… Olivia opened up to Dalton about her father, and Dalton literally SOBBED. Like, he cried for her. That moment made Ms. Pendleton’s heart crumble and she started to open up to him emotionally and developed romantic feelings for him. But the sad part is, she doesn’t want him to know, and she’ll never tell him, because she thinks he deserves someone better (like girl, YOU are the one for him )
Dalton on the other hand has already decided that Ms. Pendleton will be his wife and the only one for him. He truly believes they’re destined for each other.
There’s also this scene where they were walking around Whitefield, but then it started to rain, so they ran to a small abandoned house. Ms. Pendleton thought, “She wanted to express her feelings to him with her eyes, her expressions, her words, and her gestures. She wanted to become the cigarette case he held, to be caressed by him, to be close to his body like the shirt he wore, to warm him like the flames of the fireplace he basked in.” Super romantic.
HOWEVER, there’s still no confession, and Ms. Pendleton just can’t seem to catch on. Dalton literally said something like, “She doesn’t know that I love her.” Like be fr if I were her, I would’ve definitely caught on. That’s peak boy best friend behavior
Anyway, because Ms. Pendleton wants to help him get closer to the one she thinks he loves, she suggested hosting a huge hunting party. Dalton gave her the role of managing it and even told her, “I can’t do anything without you,” and “Please stay by my side.”
That’s all I remember for now because I stopped at chapter 100, where the hunting party begins. The girl (Ms. Lance) was also invited, and the last chapter I read showed her arriving. I feel like this arc is going to be so frustrating because Ms. Pendleton will definitely get jealous but won’t act on it, since she thinks Dalton and Ms. Lance like each other. so yea there are def going to be misunderstandings

OMG THANK YOU SOO MUCH Uff this is such a slow burn but I know the ending is going to be soooooo satisfying CANT WAIT (≧▽≦)(≧▽≦)
Because they were out in society around 16 years old, there were some illnesses who could kill them, and that's why it was strange and not very well seen to be alone at such age without husband+children. In fact, if you watch the Pride and Prejudice series (1997 I think, 6 chapters, pure gold inmho) there is a small conversation they have about the age of the protagonist and she was "reaching the limit" after she passed 21 or so.
