From the raw that I've read so far, it doesn't look like something really bad happend to the kidnapper. It just looks like the prisoner was bit of a dick to him with the knowledge of his feelings. Idk what will happend in the future, but the biggest problem seems to be the mentalyty of the kidnapper. He does not look psychically normal in the flashbacks.

My theory... when they were in high school they had mutual feelings, but didn't confess.
