wth is a milk brother????

It’s a term used for when a baby/ infant breast feeds from another woman and not his own mother and that woman’s biological child whom she also is/ was breast feeding, and could possibly have helped bring the child up as well, the two children are raised together in a sense, so dubbed the term Milk Brothers.

There were several reasons why noble woman would not breastfeed their children themselves:
1.) It was considered vulgar and animalistic (I am a noble, no cow).
2.) the ladies simply had no time, because they had their social obligations.
3.) If you do not breastfeed, you could get faster pregnant again, and bearing a lot of children was a noble lady's main occupation. (Since most children died, before they could become adults you needed at least a dozen children for about 3 of them to survive. It was also preferable not to get to attached to your children, until you know that they will grow up healthy.)
So each noble child had its own wet nurse. A commoner woman, who gave birth at the same time and would feed the noble child together with her own child. The wet nurse's child was then called milk brother or milk sister, because they shared the same milk. They often grew up as playmates and became the noble child's trusted aide.
