The FL is one of the reasons I tell ppl that building your self esteem is the key to a good life, because knowing and making it known to people that YOU don't need anyone and instead just want them, is important. Knowing and understanding that the most important person in anyone's life is themselves is crucial, especially in situations like these where you have to leave for the sake of yourself. Having self esteem means that you will never allow others to disrespect you and that if they do you can easily leave.
Now I don't hate her or whatnot and I do agree that it's that ugly orange haired bumass fucking dumbass of a man's fault but let's accept that some of the blame falls on her too (like a 90% and 10% situation) because she constantly tolerates him. The first step on how to get away from situations like these is to STOP tolerating the narcissists. I know it's just a trauma reaction for her and that she's just hoping for the impossible but the moment she realizes that he's not the man she fell for is the time she escapes the hell he made.
Also I for real think she does not need a man so early on, give my girl some therapy and LOADS of cash.
Tldr: Love yourself and better your self esteem because in situations like this the only one who can ACTUALLY help you get out of it is yourself.

It's fiction yeah so sometimes author writes for the sake of the plot still I agree with you. Somehow it's always a person who got disrespected alot since childhood doesn't know how to defend their own self because they don't value their own interest. She needs a friend that could slap her back to reality, a honest friend that would call her out
