not a fan of this manwha at all but for some reason I always end up coming back send help ya’ll
Nah, see that’s the thing we aren't defending Taeju like he’s some poor misunderstood angel. He raped Euihyun. Period. There’s no sugarcoating that. No amount of “trauma” or “backstory” excuses that, and anyone trying to romanticize what he did from the start needs to take several seats.
But what we’re saying is, there’s a f*cking difference between Taeju and someone like Jaekyung from Jinx. And if you can’t see that, then you’re just not looking beyond the surface. We’re not glorifying Taeju, we’re acknowledging that the story treats his actions with actual accountability. He holds himself accountable. He knows what he did was disgusting. He regrets it, yes, but more than that he even tried to remove himself from Euihyun's life. Not for drama. Not to get brownie points. But because he believes Euihyun deserves better. He chooses to suffer alone rather than risk hurting him again. That’s not love-bombing, that’s not manipulation. That’s guilt. That’s someone trying to atone in silence.
There’s a scene where Taeju doesn’t just break down over what he did,he literally tells Euihyun not to forgive him, even when Euihyun himself starts opening up again. And when he comes back later, it’s not with force or pressure. It’s Euihyun who reaches out first. Taeju never demands to be loved. He waits, and he fears it, because he knows he doesn’t deserve it.
Now compare that to Jaekyung, who keeps treating Dan like a sex object, never once stepping back, never showing remorse, just doubling down on the control and ownership. There's no character development. No internal conflict. The man thinks he’s entitled to Dan’s body because he pays rent. That’s not a "dark love story" that’s straight-up abuse wrapped in candy wraps.
So no, we’re not “defending” Taeju. We’re saying this is what it looks like when a story treats rape as something serious, with consequences. We’re saying that, unlike Jinx, Low Tide in Twilight doesn’t act like rape is just a sexy plot twist. It shows how deep it scars. And how hard it is even for a rapist, to look at themselves and still choose to be better without expecting forgiveness.
That’s the difference. That’s why people acknowledge Taeju more. Not because we think he’s good. But because he knows he was evil and nd he tries to stop being that.
And to add to that: I feel like the author of Jinx isn't planning to write a redemption arc. Like an actual one, with the inner conflict, realization, regret etc. Because that would be a human thing. And I can count on one hand how many times Jaekyung has actually acted truly human in Jinx. If the author had planned to write a redemption arc, she would have started it with the second season. The realization, slowly but surely creeping in, of what he's done. As you said, LTIT shows this process in a great way. That's why I consider it a great story in the end, even though it starts with Taeju being human trash. Because in the end, there is human in his trash. And Jaekyung is just trash. No thought behind his eyes except longing for asshole
Girlll I’m not here debating the genre. I know Jinx is about an abusive relationship. That’s not the issue.
I replied to a specific comment that said “y’all hate Jaekyung but defend Taeju”,so I broke down the characters, how they're written, how they handle what they did.
I’m not dragging Jinx for being about abuse like ofc you won't find a single genre everywhere and i myself read abusive relationship based media but I’m saying Jaekyung doesn’t grow, doesn’t regret, doesn’t even try, which is like you said, is because of the abusive genre. He stays the same abusive dude from chapter 1. Meanwhile, Taeju? Still a rapist, yeah, but the story and he himself hold him accountable. He backs off. He suffers. He doesn’t force forgiveness or romance. That’s not defending him, that’s pointing out the difference in writing and responsibility.
I'm simply drawing out the character differences since that's the comment i replied to.
So I don't mean it like I’m mad Jinx is dark. That’s not it. I’m talking about why people view Taeju differently from Jaekyung. That’s character analysis, not a review of the kink tag. Σ(っ°Д °;)っ
ey hater-chan im not a girl nd im just trying to tell u that it's so wrong to compare those twocharacters bcs red flags (not black tho) are always the same when they suffer and have their own happiness in yaoi mangas thats it and we are here waiting for one purpose it's jaykyung's character development like taeju, right? ;))
That's because you like it. Even if it's not 100%. You like it enough to come back. I think that's a lot of people here who pretends to hate it. If you like something, simply say that. Liking something doesn't mean you're 100% on board. You can like certain things and still dislike others.
Example: The art and character designs are appealing to me. I'm also a fan of Jae's tattoos. I like tattoos. I also like how, in a way, Danny and Jae are what each needs to grow as they represent the opposite of what the other is. Danny has shown to have grown from that as well as Jae (albeit a more subtle).
Though, I dislike the pacing and how the longevity of the overall story makes the story difficult to keep up with as you feel no growth or any process because of it. The repetitive narrative that seems like it's common and popular in (South)Korea does eventually leave a sour taste in my mouth. Despite all that, I do enjoy what I see thus far and I'd like to see where this goes. If anything, I don't mind coming back when there are more episodes.
You can like and dislike. Don't need to pretend to hate it but then have no idea why you're here.

I just remembered this now, well been thinking about it for the past few recent chapters but like…where are the daughters?? Like I remember there were 2 of them pretty sure..
They’re there, just that they’re inconsequential to the story. Goes to show how little the parents actually care about them.
Wait they were? When?
