when he mentions children i str. away thought of adoption

Me too but adoption is a mess in Japan because there's such a strong emphasis on reuniting with birth parents, so even in orphanages, a lot of times the birth parents still have legal custody, which means the kid can't be adopted. This continues, despite reports about parents murdering their children after taking them out of care. So adoption is difficult and stigmatized and the whole situation sucks. Sorry this was kind of depressing...

Yeah... and it's such a big deal to have children because in many places in Asia (I'm talking India too), getting married and starting a family of your own (well, having kids anyway) is basically what makes you a legitimate, adult member of society. (Especially in Japan, where they have family registers on a legal level. It's important for children to inherit and continue the family register by getting married and having kids.) So here's the silver lining (?): At least you won't have your willing suspension of disbelief broken again when the whole biological child/lack of marriage issue comes up in yaoi/BL, since you won't feel like the author is creating needless drama. The other bright side is that in Japan you can engineer de facto gay marriages by having one partner "adopt" the other partner into their family registry. (Adoption is done in Japan mostly among adult men for the sake of passing on property and businesses and stuff.)
