I finished the novel a few days ago so let me say it, Matthias is one of the best characters ever written, he is the star of the story for me, his character whether good or bad in the eyes of others I see him as someone I can fall in love with completely! At least the author did not turn him into a naive and stupid character like many novels, the author was able to take us on a journey with him from the character of the obsessed lover who does everything to get what he wants even if it is at the expense of others to the character who is still the same somehow but with special additions because of his interaction with his beloved.. In my opinion he wanted to tame her but he is the one who was actually tamed by her!
Chapter 137 broke me completely I cried my eyes out at the result he reached in order to maintain his love for her.. He was really a wonderful character.. He turned me completely into an obsessed fan... LOVE YOUUU MATTHIAS

Glad you read and analyzed the novels. Many people here don’t have that level of comprehension and regurgitates the same nonsense from others who don’t understand this character.
You do realise that you can understand a character but still dislike him right? You preach about comprehension yet you lack the ability to understand what having a perspective means. I also enjoyed the complexity of the character but i would completely understand if someone did not like his motivations and personality. Just because someone isn't mesmerised and touched by things we are regarding a story, it doesn't mean that they don't understand', it means they experience the story differently and 'experience' while reading a story can be something deeply personal. It's extremely absurd to be so condescending towards anyone who shares a different opinion than you, almost as absurd as those who call rape apologists the people who enjoy dark stories. It's strictly a matter of taste and perspective, it's very understandable if they dislike a connection with a character that is 'morally grey' (if that expression is even a thing). Not all characters will be loved by everyone.

Maybe I'm used to toxic stories to the point that I didn't feel the warmth and emotion in this one! There's no action, no real strogle everything just went smoothly. I didn't feel that it was a story that suited me, even though it was almost perfect! Idk
Nah 100% same, I don’t think it’s necessarily because the lack of toxicity or angst. It feels kind of mean to say but I feel like it was just okay written, the characters don’t have much depth, they fall in love so quickly and out of nowhere (like you don’t really see them having enough pleasant interactions to warrant them falling in love so fast), I didn’t get that fun giddy feeling :(

There are so many toxic stories where the seme rapes/threatens/exploits the uke but they still ends up together and one fine day the seme realizes he's in love with uke and says "I love you" and the uke just accepts the seme with open arms. No repercussions at all!! This one at least shows how a person tries hard to not hurt the one he might be into and they fucking communicate.
Oh I agree with you 100% too, having toxic themes or angst in a story doesn’t make it automatically better. I just found that, like the original comment, the story just didn’t hit for me, they had struggles, yes, and they talked them out buts it’s like how I said the writing just felt flat…? The dialogue was so cheesy and the way events progressed felt very superficial (i can’t really word it well lol but it’s more like I didn’t feel WHY they fell for each other). But yeah it’s still an okay story don’t get me wrong I still read the whole thing lol
