The dad is (I don't wanna say traumatized but he kinda is omygod) traumatized and is clearly showing signs of someone emotionally neglected as a child and now he's passing on his issues to his kids man. I'm totally not defending his actions but you can infer and understand the reason why he's like that. He's not a good dad because of a few good deeds but his actions does have a reason behind it but it should never be excused.
And I get the whole point of needing to be strong so the bloodline will continue but you can't just neglect ur kids for the sake of the bloodline. Just cause the ways of growing??? A child "worked" doesn't mean it was ever right.

Yepp, I also hate how something cliche or using the same tropes is treated as a bad thing and as if the story can't be good in that case. Like, sure, it's fun when there are twists and unexpected things happening ik the story, but having tropes and cliches doesn't mean the story isn't enjoyable! Esp for this story, as I particularly enjoy the interactions between MC and the ML, and I'd say the art is pretty fitting for it as well (+ visually pleasing).
