I'm confused. MC imagined things based on his traumas and attacks ML and blames him. ML apologizes but it's human to walk away when you're frustrated and resentful about some things. In my opinion MC was waiting for the right motivation to distance himself from ML because his traumas are too strong.

I mean now he's locked her in a room for days and she only talks to him? There is no suffering big enough for him.
