I just realized that her mother is narcissistic. I'm not saying she hasn't changed, she had but I think one of the reason why her mother regretted her actions before was because she realized that her child was never gonna come back to her. Lyrica always came back to her no matter what that's why she felt in control, that's why she didn't care because even if she was such a horrible person, there was still one person who would come back to her with certainty. But when Lyrica died, she realized how alone she was and how much she slipped from her fingers, that's why she felt scared. Because the one person that she thought would always go back to her, is never coming back making her realize that she had nobody except for Lyrica. That's why she regretted not taking care of her well and being such a powerless mother that she'd rather sell her daughter to a 70 year old count in order to make their life better than to woman up and be the one to make their life better because if she did that, she wouldn't have lost the one person that cared for her and loved her.
