In the Korean novel book 1 Maxi looses her baby (miscarriage) so she returns to her father because she was afraid that Riftan will reject her but her dad beat her luckily Riftan was there. He almost killed the father.
I'm hoping by then that Riftan will realize some of Maxi's trauma and past so they'll be able to communicate better
