So I'm on Android and Google Chrome, I don't know the exact steps for iPhone but I'm sure it's similar. First you need to find the novel, you can do this by going to the link I sent, finding the alternative titles / associated names and copying the Chinese. Putting that into Google will give you many websites that have this book. Find one that's free with minimal ads (double check the summary to make sure it's the same novel and not one with a similar title). But when you enter the site, it is entirely in Chinese. Your device might automatically translate it to English for you, but if it doesn't, click the 3 dots / lines, at the top right of your browser and find the translate option to get it to translate. If you can, click the box that says always translate Chinese to English so it'll do this step automatically.
I have no idea what chapter this comic lines up with in the novel, but you can jump 5-10 chapter intervals and read a few lines to see if you can figure out where in the story this lines up to.
As for tips of reading MTL (machine translation) itself, Google translate constantly confuses he and she. So if there are two men talking, it might make a mistake and say "she" instead of "he". It'll also sometimes directly translate names. So for instance, a character named Bai weiwei, Bai means white in Chinese. So it might call them white weiwei. You eventually learn the direct translation of character names as you keep reading MTL of a series. Sentences can have basic mistakes such as saying that "character 1 didn't do thing". But then as you read the next paragraph, it is clear that they did do the thing. It can be confusing, and you will miss out on a chunk of context. It's good for skimming future events rather than reading directly. But it also heavily depends on the author. Some authors write in a way that Google translates very well and you can read very smoothly, and some authors write in a way that heavily confuses Google translate. Google translate has come a long way from from many years ago. It makes a lot less mistakes than it used to. But if you got any specific questions, feel free to reach out <3
