Just to let ya all know, the Grimm's versions isn't the original one. Perrault's version, which Disney based off for the movie and etc, is at least one century older than Aschenputtel, by Brothers Grimm (1697 vs 1812).
Even then, Perrault most likely based off his story on one of the versions that were circulating during the time. We know stories with evil stepmothers and poor, abused stepdaugthers or of princes who helplessly fall in love with poor, pitiful orphaned women have existed since ancient Egypt/Greece as oral stories. Basile probably wrote the first literary version of Cinderella in 1634, called Cenerentola, and in that story "Cinderella" was a princess.
She's so badasssssss. I'm a bit worried though when she meets the crown prince.
