'Cause he didn't do anything that shows that he groomed Kane. He genuinely loves him as his child, albeit he's a lil fucked in the head from being immortal and losing his children over and over and over again. Each time he adopts a child tho he treats them like his own flesh and blood and does his best to raise them despite not knowing how.
Grooming requires "reeducating" a child into believing that doing sexual stuff with an adult or older party ((it isn't always full grown adults grooming btw)) is ok. It removes their ability to be able to recognize that what is being done to them is wrong.
