Well, to be honest, the Duke hasn't completely told Jayce about his feelings/never has told jayce he loves him (even if he did tried to tell jayce about his feelings on that moment, jayce fainted). Especially when asking him out to be his lover, if you go back, all they ever done is sex without consent, but sex nonetheless, so when he ask jayce out he says 'can we be in that kind of relationship' we all know what the Duke truly meant but jayce thought of it as sex partners, because the Duke should've had said; 'i like you, and fell for you, can we be lovers?' or something along those lines.
