This isn’t depicting Muslims or Arabs as bad people, these is merely a representation of some travesties that occur in the area, which can be seen with “simple research.” While some matters may be “stereotypical”, as a Muslim who is Arab, I don’t find anything offensive about it. People tend to forget that lots of white people also write stories on East Asians, and just because it is shown is a positive light, even if it’s inaccurate people don’t complain about it. This isn’t inaccurate at all, if you have researched wars amongst the Arabian peninsula, this is fairly accurate and I feel like everyone complaining is over analyzing a fictions piece of work. Sorry for the rant, I just don’t like the author being critiqued like this.

I think it’s just because when it’s not made by someone who knows the reality first handedly, it’s very obvious—
Doesn’t mean the story can’t be good or historically accurate of course~

I’m staying pretty unopiniated here personally—
Like at first the ML being so white really made me cringe (coz it’s not a first), and then it being justified by the French mom made me go like “Ayt. Ayt ok, let’s say at least you backed that up.” And then finally I just shrugged it off coz well, it was part of the character’s actual development and not just an aesthetic thing

I have to say however, these stories stay extremely awkward for me to read when I can’t relate to the characters, so no matter how accurate it is, if the characters aren’t relatable, then there’s still some inaccuracy

I think that’s what’s really making people feel like this is not “representing” well; it’s not a matter of wrong info, it’s just not... it?
