Jinwoo was killed by Sovereign of the Beast (his human heart got crushed) and while the black heart assimilated itself in his body to resurrect him as the official shadow sovereign, his dad step up to protect him because the three sovereign wants to stop that process.
Then his dad overdid it, left as Jinwoo resurrected but Jinwoo managed to catch up and talk to him before he turned to dust.
At least that how it will go down if they are faithful the novel.
