I think it's actually just the nature of what they are. I mean, kiri even said that because of their nature he would have to kill his own brother at that one part when he was changed by the drugs. So because of the beast part of them, perhaps they are not overly comforting because they have situations where they'd have to put down their own kind if they go crazed. Just my thoughts on it....but they seem to really hint at it being the man beasts nature so chop it up to instincts ╮(￣▽￣)╭
