The sadist in me would REALLY love seeing a sadist suffer. It's an "overcome and conquer" type of story which a lot of us enjoy. I personally know several asshole-types who have evolved and changed for the better. In many cases (not all), it's a defense mechanism to cover some kind of weakness or past trauma. Hachidori has that chance and it seems there are people around him who are really pulling for him.
I don't think people realize that this is all new for Hachidori. Love is a new sensation for him and he has no clue how to process it. This actually makes him more vulnerable than Wataru since he's likely never been hurt before. When the revenge comes, it's likely to be devastating.
For readers who tend to take characters and plots at face value, then yes, they should probably look elsewhere.
