I haven’t even read the story and I know what you’re talking about. Sad to say, but that’s just how early 2000s shoujo manga was. While not as frequent in more recent works, you’ll see that a lot of bl maintains this energy. Although lately I’ve seen a lot more healthy relationship. Not gonna lie I do read some stories with toxic relationships, although not as extreme compared to this, in my defense.

Fuck it. I don't read the manga bc i know it would be as fucked as the live action. The story was awful, and i remember there is a scene where they had sex on the library and she got pregnant. Jeezzz idk why that 'pregnant' is so ez for them to accept, i mean they are highschoolers, HE IS UNEMPLOYED, what do u want to fed the girl and the baby? 'Love'? What a bs. This story is full of bs.
I know its true story of the mangaka but still. It is full of bs. She is so naive. It is forgiveable if this just happened in manga, but in real life? No! Why would u be that weak. You literally give up on your life and break up with someone who totally accepted you just the way you are and not thinking about your past just to be with a boy who impregnating you when u still a highschooler. The manga started out so damn well but then it just HAD to go straight to hell. Hatori has got to be the worst shojo lead and Rita, the worst male lead. They both deserve each other. Weak-minded and selfish!
Very obvious the mangaka ran out of ideas and rushed the ending. I thought we'd get up to at least 100 chapters so the feelings can be truly developed and understood. So much lost potential
