He's not actually. He just regurgitated homophobic shit his peers were sprouting at the time without realizing he was telling someone that leaned that direction horrible things. But really he learnt better when he grew up but never thought to tell his hyung about his matured mindset (or apparently, even made his hyung feel like he could depend on him - it's a two way street. Just because the hyung is the hyung doesn't mean he has the sole responsibility for communicating). So I'm personally disliking him 60% right now, and it'll probably head down to 10% when it's all resolve, mainly cuz I can hold a grudge - so pretty good in the end.
