it's very difficult for me not to feel empathy for shima's mother in the present, but she has to face the consequences of her actions.
in my opinion, motherhood is one of the hardest things in the world, especially when you have no support network whatsoever. we are all living life for the first time, so making mistakes is almost impossible. we don't know exactly what shima’s mother’s family life was like and everything that really happened until shima came into her life. what we do know is that she lived in a completely abusive relationship and that she had a child with a man who doesn't even care to remember that he is a father. when i look at it from this perspective, i can *somewhat* understand where all the fear and control that she began to place on shima came from. it’s just unfortunate how her fear & overprotection for shima turned to abuse. this is just my analysis, how i interpreted the recent chapter. i want to be able to understand the depth of each character, because they are always so well written. anyway, aside from that,
shima is a very very special character to me. for one, i resonate with him a lot. i am really excited for how the play is gonna go for him. i really cannot wait!!

oops don’t get me wrong i LOVE beastars. just a tiny commentary about how crazy legoshi has so much chemistry with his friends (LOUIS I’M LOOKING ATCHU) yet literally none with haru. idk there was just no buildup nor chemistry between them? i’m no hater though they were pretty cute i guess… it’s just so hard for me to believe that louis & legoshi isn’t canon because to me, they were clearly inlove okay sorry maybe i can’t differentiate platonic love from romantic love, but idk their bond was just so much deeper than haru & legoshi’s. perhaps to me what jack & legoshi had was what i’d call platonic love, meanwhile whatever was going on between him & louis… yeah. i swear i’m not some weird fujo but there was so much tension & chemistry between them like i’m telling you that man Louis was WHIPPED for legoshi.
they may not be lovers, not friends either, but a secret third thing that only they understand.
ALSO louis fumbled baaaaaadddddd with juno like if he wasn’t gonna end up with legoshi, i would’ve liked seeing him with juno. they were cute for sure!
+ js gonna sneak here, legoshi’s always been my biggest hear me out (even back when i haven’t read/watched it yet) but honestly is he even a hear me out? it’s seriously just ‘cause he’s a furry that my friends look at me like i’m sort of weirdo when i say i find beastars characters attractive
Nooo I totally get you. I don't think it's a fujo thing, it's just unfortunately a widespread phenomenon in (especially shounen) manga that the female love interests are just... lacking. I'm a little disappointed in the author tbh because she's a woman and I'd expect she'd do better than idk the author of Naruto who did the same shit. Like have two male characters, fleshed out, we can look into their souls and can practically feel their deep connection with each other, and yeahhh there's a girl too and she's the love interest. Like girl bsfr commit to one thing. Either make it even more homoerotic or give Haru a better story arc with Legosi. (sorry for the rant, I watched a YouTube video on this exact topic today and can't shut up about it)

omggg you get me… you get me sooo bad i watched & read this knowing haru was his love interest, but it’s seriously so hard for me to believe louigoshi wasn’t the end game. it was supposed to be them! (in my head they are, at least…) i will never get over how their relationship developed into something SOOO special.
and right! i think legoshi & haru were cute. but.. that’s that. that was it. maybe if they focused more on the buildup of their relationship (also idk i just think they lacked interaction that’s why i feel as if their rs had no progression) perhaps it wouldn’t be so hard for me to accept they’re endgame. but legoshi’s relationship with louis had SO much more depth. far more interesting & tense. like you can’t look me in the eye and say they weren’t inlove.. they clearly were— are!

The thing about that "omg shut up weird gay men fetishizing fujo they're just friends, get over it and accept they're just, um, passionate straight people?", I kinda get that too, you know. I think sometimes shippers interpret a lot when it comes to intimate male friendships, because we're not used to seeing those. But come on- ever heard of queercoding? Imo beastars isn't a story of just two guy pals who just have a really nice friendship that gets a little passionate sometimes, it's definitely queercoded. If not literally, then metaphorically, you know, that whole eating = desiring metaphor being clearly established in Harus and Legosis relationship, just to also happen in Legosis relationship with Louis but like- a lot stronger. You get me? Beastars is a very thought through metaphor for humanity in different facets and I doubt the author didn't have a little queer stuff in mind while writing all this. I hope you appreciate my yap too, I'm way too invested in all this
i get you as well, not all relationships need to be romantic to be special and unfortunately a lot of those weird shippers don't get that.. but bingo it literally doesn't apply to them
there is like a REALLY strong underlying romantic tension between those two.. i might be crazy but there are so many clips where they are so boyfriends coded you just can't expect me to not assume they're in love. i think its nice to have a little queer representation actually. it can canonically be inferred in either direction, but the subtext throughout the manga just screams that what they had was more than jusy "friendship", especially with the devouring?? i also really love how louis inversely parallels legoshi (ties to carnivore/herbivore) smmm, and yeah i love the way beastars represented cannibalism as a metaphor for love. that was very well said

I thought about it too, if Itagaki wanted to make Legosi and Louis a thing, and I'm still not sure. I've yet to find a popular manga with queer leads that isn't immediately labeled as BL/Shounen Ai/whatever, even if the sexualities of them isn't the point/focus of the story. Idk if it makes sense. I think the author deliberately used queercoding or rather implications, hinting at queer themes, instead of explicitly making it canon, because I think that would've led people to perceive beastars more as a "gay story" and maybe not reading/watching it for that reason, even though there's so much more to it. I actually like that, because like this, people can interpret it differently as they please. I don't think it's wrong to believe Louis and Legosi really are just friends and interpreting it in a different way. But I love analyzing it through a queer lense. Also because I'm a chronically online deranged gay girl
