There is always option "i'll wait for you not matter how much time it takes" ..and they go back after 2-10 years of living with abstinency and no contact

welp if we look at it at an analytical perspective the black haired dude is still being shown on how much he miss's the mc and how much spotlight he has in the actual manga. Now if he wasnt being shown then that option would be reasonable but even so we all know there will be a third guy who interferes. It's cliche but gives the story some sort of movement and body where as if we take account of the option you offered that is waayy "to cliche" giving each character no "drama" making it a dead story. Sure you can do a lot with just "oh we will be faithful and wait" but its really hard to do it because most of the time you want to see character development as opposed to a time skip and then the end.
