I feel like this is so much more different from other revenge isekai stories or like villains because Remila really has the capacity for evil. Like a lot of villains are so much more easy to sympathize with or most of the time the villain is just a title but the actual person who was isekai'd is kind or extremely kind to a detriment. This is so refreshing because OG Remila almost has (What seems like to me) sociopathic tendencies and thoughts. Her only change is Emi who gave her a compass for morality. All her actions are guided not by her own sense of good but of what Emi would like and her sense of morality, which happens to be good. There's only a few moments where you see Remilia actually moved and not using her own reactions and facade as a manipulation. And its still tied to Emi (take when she ate breakfast for the first time or when Angel told her that he wanted to be a man who wouldn't bring her shame). I just think its a really interesting take because her personality and OG Remila as a person is so unique to other isekai otome stories. Because she's not evil, but again we've seen that she has the capacity to be. And moreover she could be argued as not being "good" either because of her manipulations and her desire to help are a means to an end and for her or "Emi's" benefit. But ALSO it begs the question of if that is really even important because she's still saved so many people. Does the reason completely matter if the outcome is undoubtably good.
I also think its a good story because often times stigmatized mental health issues are framed in a negative way and the characters we see are either violent or antagonist characters, but this story kind of shows how environment can change people for better even if they aren't the same. For anyone willing to read this long rant, you also might see my analysis of Remila a stretch too, but this is kind of my own thoughts also.
Thanks for this analysis you summed up the reason why I live this character. She IS different from most isekaid stories, she makes the perfect villain but she uses her manipulative personality to do good on behalf of Emi. And it’s refreshing
I think what's throwing Shuri so much about everyone is the sole lack of information that is so relevant to her, which is the fact that everyone's obsession save except Jeremy and Nora is tied to the previous empress. Moreover she can't figure out the priest either because she doesn't know how deep his obsession for her runs. I think its really fun to read it not knowing, because we're left with the suspense, but its also equally entertaining to me to see both sides knowing the reason behind each character. Like the priest leading her to condemnation and saying its inevitable and Shuri not knowing his motivations really and thinking he's being a dutiful priest . But then after making herself clear in her decision no matter which life he almost backtracks. "We don't have to be enemies". And its so confusing unless you realize or know that he wants her to himself, to be locked away in a monastery (Which he also says is like the best option, but really he says that cause its the best option for him).
Also the empress is so interesting and I can't wait to see more about her, really a woman that could bring down nations. I also feel like it adds a layer to the tragedy of Shuri's first life since she was so unaware and confused of why she was being pulled every other way partially due to her resemblance to all these men's first loves
I read some comments before reading and thought "Oh it must be good cause everyone wants more!, now I'm pissed cause why tf isn't there more? Like I need more, it ended too quickly wtf???
I like how I was expecting something more terrifying than Palome (which was a good take since making something that terrifying is such a hard draw, esp. in this style, so hiding her face and giving her that backstory is so great cause it leaves us curious and is so fitting for a terrifying painting), but I think its great that her sister is actually beautiful and its her personality that much more twisted and manipulative which is why she's even scarier. I love how satisfying all the surprises along the way are, it makes the wait really worth it.
