I guess it's a one-sided love story for Makoto, J took advantage of Makoto's feelings/obsession just so he could vanish and probably be with W somewhere, and in fact, he never really loved Makoto.
Makoto will most likely do the same thing as what J did to him to a different demon so he could be with J again when someone finally surpasses him. It's like a cycle for demons who become "no one."
