His lover is either dead(since its the showa era vs modern) or that was a dream of past life, orrrr he can go back(but idk how) with the option of choosing the old guy or the modern guy. Another theory is that sungwoo might've known that they met eras ago and he fell in love again with him despite the circumstances and he wrote the novel for him based on his memories of past life.
