Not really, I have double lobe, and 4 cartilage piercings, Done cheaply at claires no less, If you pay for it by a professional it doesn't really hurt, unless you have a low pain tolerance, It would probably hurt by doing it by hand with a dull piece of jewelry, like the comic

(not saying claires are professionals, saying I had mine done it at claires, you guys should do a professional)

Depends on who does them I got my first piercings at 2 an I supposedly didn't even cry but the lady who did them messed up and pierced her glove with it so she took it out and re pierced it lets just say it's hard for me to wear earrings with those holes. My second piercings hurt real bad cause the lady was freaking out she kept saying are you sure you want this done and whatnot. My third set were cartilage and the person who did them was so quick I didn't even know it was finished they never hurt. So all in all who does it is very important the faster the better in my opinion.

Didn't hurt me at all either, and I think I have bad pain tolerance. Tatts might be impossible for me, but the piercings weren't bad. I had my ears pierced in elementary school, 2nd holes in middle school, my nose in high school. But the pain in my lobes was like on a scale 5/10 and the pain in my nose was a 4/10.
So, I have five piercings (two on each lobe, and nostril) and I want 6 more piercings all together (3rd holes on my lobes, double helix on one ear, single cartilage on other ear, & septum).
