Well it is just a pen mindlessly given to him by his ex. They mutually broke up so there was no bad blood between them. They even hung out whenver they are free. Safe to say they are still friends but not lovers. The pen is probably just an insignificant object of the past that he mindlessly have. So the pen is pretty much there, living in his house, rent free and unbothered. Mc was just quite uncomfortable of the coincidences of being a lover of his old crush ex. And the pen was even something he picked out to be gifted for his old crush's ex
