Yes, I mean I'm sorry I made it sound like I had so many spoilers but yes, he starts ignoring him and isolating him from the friend group, which led to him being fully isolated and not protected at all. I think this was him being like I'm going to isolate you so you only need Me (yandere). And when he sees it's not working by that point they already reach college and he tries to go back to how things were but too little too late tbh.
