out of everyone in this story, the crown prince/violet himself knows fully that evie will hate him or like somehow gain intense anger or sadness? once she learns about it. i mean, we all know how she was hurt with that one fcking kiss and then how he said twas only a joke. if not angry, she will be sad af bc she would realize the distance and reality that she knows herself, she was only being used for political matters and not meant to be the crown princess. EVER (i guess in their standpoint). maybe violet really considers the reality of the situation and in the end he wants to protect evie even tho it means marrying her off to renok. sorry I can't rlly call our violet a bastard, maybe a martyr would fit but not a bastard. we all see he was willing to hurt himself for the sake of evie. maybe because out of everyone in this story VIOLET HIMSELF KNOWS that marrying, especially in his situation, won't be solved by love and some sort of shit because he's being treated like a slave by his father emperor and who knows if he decides to choose evie the emperor might try to kill evie or even violet for the sake of politics. THE REAL BASTARD HERE IS POLITICS, PPL. POLITICS, a real bastard even irl.
my heart hurts for evie, and for violet. evie will suffer a lifetime's worth of heartache if she never gets over violet and violet will live an empty emperor, who only tries to live through seeing evie even in seconds, pretending happy about her marriage to his best friend when in fact he's died inside a thousand times. that's why i understand why right now, he's trying to gradually let go of evie but still loving her enormously. We don't need to doubt his love because it is true af imma punch whoever says no and that he should fight for her and marry her in the name of love — my ass! he wanna fight the way he wants but he can't! why? his evie's life might be in danger, she might be criticized, humiliated because of him! and i know nothing would hurt a man more than seeing his love get hurt esp because of him.
